I don't have any hard and fast rules about a first date. I just think if both have made the effort to me we should be somewhere with few distractions where we can talk and get to we'know one-another. Assuming we've already spoken enough to feel we know each other well anything is a possibility. It's not initially about the location, more so the chemistry and whether or not we can connect. If there is a true connection we can be anywhere and do anything together.

Let's call it a FIRST meeting instead of a date..Spending a day together, someplace where the both of us can enjoy ourselves, feeling relax and carefree, where we can talk and see if we share similar interests, but if by chance there is some attraction, I'm not just talking physical, but deeper then let's explore the many possibilities of a relationship. We should just keep it simple and meet for a drink and appetizer and talk, if all goes well, then upgrade the date for next week to movie and dinner and jazz music
Depends on the weather. If it is a nice day, lunch in the park so we can talk and get to know each other. Parks are neutral ground where both can feel relaxed.

Meet at a spot where we can chat (coffee shop, water front). Take a walk, go to dinner. Volunteer somewhere together. Play a couple games of pool, go sing some karaoke.

I think the first date should be somewhere public yet kinda cozy like Starbucks or some other cafe or coffee shop so that we could meet and get to know each other. Then afterwards if we see that we're a match a walk in the park if its nice, museum, casino. I would say a movie however if you're in a theater you really can't chat much
